| Hedge Funds | | | While relatively unknown in New Zealand and Australia, hedge funds are significant players in the world’s investment markets. They have gained notoriety in recent years following daring high-profile investment manoeuvres by legendary hedge fund managers such as George Soros that have yielded billions of dollars in profits.
A hedge fund is essentially a private investment partnership (or in some cases a public company) consisting of a general partner who manages the investments and takes a substantial investment in the fund, and high net worth individuals who contribute investment capital. The general partner makes their money from management fees. Hedge funds often take large risks on speculative strategies, such as derivatives, short-selling and margin trading. They scope all investment markets, and shift billions of dollars in and out of currencies, shares and bonds. | | | | | | Advantage Hedge Fund | | OM-IP Series | | The Alternative Strategies Fund | | Titan Trust |
